  • 1997 ~ 1998 JCP Marine (Thailand) Ltd. - General Manager

Invited to join JCP Marine Pte. Ltd., as General Manager of their Thailand office. Conducted P&I Club Pre-entry Condition surveys on all kind of vessel, Hull & Machinery Follow-up surveys and Pre-Purchase Condition surveys. Also, as a Safety and Environmental Consultant accredited with Texaco and Chevron, carried out OCIMF "SIRE-1 & 2" vetting inspections of oil, gas and chemical tankers/terminal operations and the monitoring of offshore STS transfer operations. With revenues failing JCP closed their Thai and Korean offices in October 1998.

  • 1994 ~ 1997 Western Tug & Barge Co. Pty. - Operations Manager

Operations Manager with Western Tug & Barge Co. Pty., PNG, with full responsibility for all marine and technical operations. Initial appointment was to Kiunga Repair & Maintenance Facility, supervising the Fly River vessel operations and maintenance, whilst continuing to manage Southern Tankers, Major machinery overhauls, mini-"Mud" dockings (to change stern seals in service), regular dockings and class inspections were a part of this function until the increased fleet activity justified the addition to the Operations staff of a full-time technical superintendent. Appointed as Quality Assurance Manager in 1996, in addition to Operations, to implement ISM and ISO procedures throughout Century Group's marine activities. Conducted regular safety training, anti-pollution exercises and vessel inspections together with Safety and Environmental Audits of all Century Group premises and non-marine activities.

  • 2/1994 ~ 6/1994 ABS Marine Services Inc. - Marine Consultant

Provided consultancy services to Southern Tankers Pty Ltd., Papua New Guinea, on the operation of their fleet of coastal tankers. Acted as Superintendent and Port Captain, in addition to sailing with the vessels to provide tanker and terminal safety training for the ship's crews, who were mostly unfamiliar with tankers. Similarly training and guidance on tanker operations was given to independent terminal operators who were gold and copper miners.

Promoted to Marine Superintendent, by Thorne Ship Management, to assist with their preparations for ISM/ISO/ISMA accreditation.

  • 1991 ~ 1992 Nigerian National Petroleum - Master of FSU at Bonny

Whilst on a 2-year Time Charter with NNPC on the Bonny River, was closely involved with on/offshore Terminal operations, as the permanent Master of a floating storage and topping-off vessel.

  • 1985 ~ 1991 Sea-going Career - Various Companies

Performed short stints as Chief Officer on offshore AHTS and platform supply vessels, in the North Sea and Mediterranean, before returning to deep-sea tankers and bulk carriers. Promoted to Master in 1987 and served with various companies on VLCCs and product carriers until 1993.

  • 1964 ~ 1985 Sea-going Career - Shell Tankers (UK) Ltd.

Joined Shell Tankers *UK) Ltd., in 1964, as an Apprentice and remained with them until 1985, reaching the rank of Chief Officer. Served on a variety of tankers carrying crude, lubes, bitumen, black/white products, LPG/LNG and bulk carriers with coal. In 1978 was seconded to Shell Nigeria as a Terminal Safety Officer, based at Okrika - but appointment was terminated after six months, due to political instability.
