Superintendent of a fleet of 5 cargo vessels and 9 bunkering vessels. Responsible for all vessel operations, including loading, repair, general maintenance and crewing. Also responsible for the identification and purchase of replacement tonnage and an extensive new-building program.

Amecon Engineering Group

Appointed during late 1987 as Management Consultant to the Amecon Engineering Group who were in the process of taking over the ownership of the Williamstown naval dockyard from the Australian Navy and Government management. Initially provided advice of action to be taken, following the takeover, in setting up a more useful workforce and converting 25 trade union organisations into three more manageable units. Consultants role was primarily to assist in the transition of the desultory 2,300 strong workforce into a lean and efficient team of 700, with full government approval.

Various Projects as Management Consultant

  • The design, specification, preparation and the construction contract for the P&O Australia Antarctic re-supply vessel "Aurora Australis"
  • Assistance to the designers and contract negotiations for the vessel "Reef Endeavour" - a cruise and leisure vessel operated out of Claims by Qantas and Captain Cook Cruises.
  • Development of the Commercial Division of the Singapore shipyard Argos Engineering.
  • Design and shipyard supervision for the lengthening of the Australian Safety Council's submarine rescue vessel "Blue Nabilla" and fitting of Dynamic-positioning equipment.
  • Design development of DP vessel "Shelf Supporter" pipeline inspection vessel for Woodside Petroleum Co.
  • Design development of a range of product tankers for Swedish, Norwegian and British owners with Singapore naval architects Conan Wu & Associates.
  • 1973 ~ 1987 Australian Offshore Services (P&O) - General Manager

Appointed as Technical Manager in April 1973, rising within the organisation to General Manager in 1983. As General Manager reported only to the Executive Director of P&O Australia with full responsibility to prepare capital submissions for the main board of P&O. During this period AOS fleet developed from 2 small craft to a wholly-owned fleet of 19 vessels operating worldwide.

Employed by Smit Lloyd Australia as Chief Engineer on their AHT's and Supply vessels.

Employed by Ingram Corporation, Australia as Chief Engineer on their AHT's in the Bass Strait.

Sailed in all ranks from Junior to Chief Engineer with a variety of shipping companies including Lowland Tanker Company, UK, Blue Star Line, Union Steamships of NZ, and the Australian National Line. Attended Poplar College during leave periods to obtain First Class Combined Certificate.
